Sushi roll calorie count

Estimate calories in a sushi roll or nigiri pieces from common USDA-style rows.

For rolls, 1 = one typical roll. For nigiri, 1 = one piece.

What this tool does

Pick a common roll or a nigiri piece and a count. Specials with cream cheese and fried bits will beat these rows.

How it works

A California roll is often ~250–280 kcal. Spicy mayo rolls climb. Nigiri is mostly a bite of rice plus fish — often 60–70 kcal each.

How to interpret the result

Three specialty rolls plus miso and a soda is a 1,000 kcal dinner without looking like one. Lean tuna rolls are the exception, not the menu average.

Example

One spicy tuna roll ~290 kcal. Two tempura rolls can pass 700 kcal before sauce.

Common mistakes

  • Logging one piece as one roll.
  • Ignoring eel sauce and spicy mayo cups.
  • Counting edamame as the whole meal and forgetting the rolls.

When this estimate may be off

  • All-you-can-eat boats.
  • Baked scallop rolls with a mayonnaise crust.

Sashimi can be. Rolls are rice dishes. Count them like rice plus fish plus sauce.

What about soy sauce?

Sodium more than calories. The rice and fried bits still dominate energy.
