Bodybuilding measurements calculator
Log chest, shoulders, waist, arms, and legs — then see shoulder-to-waist and an optional Navy body-fat estimate.
What this tool does
This is a measurement card. Ratios come from the tapes you enter. If neck and waist are filled, the Navy equation adds a body-fat estimate. Boer lean mass is context from scale weight and height.
How it works
Shoulder ÷ waist and waist ÷ chest are simple ratios. Navy math is the same as the body-fat calculator. None of it is a judging sheet.
Formula and methodology
Shoulder-to-waist = shoulders / waist. Navy %fat uses the published log10 circumference equations. Boer LBM is the usual height–weight estimate.
How to interpret the result
Track the same landmarks monthly. A 0.3 cm change is tape noise. A 4 cm waist drop over a cut is the story.
Example
Shoulders 122 cm, waist 82 cm → ratio 1.49. That is a shape number, not a moral score.
Common mistakes
- Flexing chest and sucking in waist on “progress” day only.
- Changing tape height every session.
- Chasing a ratio by shrinking calories into the floor.
When this estimate may be off
- Edema, a huge meal, or a pump you will not have tomorrow.
- You need DEXA or a coach’s callouts for a show.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I measure shoulders?
The widest point with the tape level, usually around the delts. Repeat the same spot.
Is there an ideal ratio?
No universal ideal. Use your own trend. Fashion photos are lighting.
Should I use the photo body-fat tool too?
You can. Tape and photo will disagree. Trends under one method beat mixing.
How often should I take bodybuilding measurements?
Once a month at the same time of day is enough for most lifters. Weekly tape checks chase noise from hydration, meals, and pump.
What shoulder-to-waist ratio do bodybuilders aim for?
There is no contest standard in a tape log. Many people track a rising shoulder-to-waist during a lean bulk and a falling waist-to-chest during a cut — compare to your own trend, not a photo on social media.
Why use a calculator instead of a notebook?
The math is simple, but the calculator keeps shoulder-to-waist, waist-to-chest, Navy body fat, and Boer lean mass in one place so you can copy a progress line into your log.
Do I need to measure on a scale too?
Yes for context. Tape shows shape; scale shows mass. Neither tells you diet quality — pair measurements with a TDEE or calorie target from the calorie calculator.
