What this tool does
Steps become distance from a height-based stride, then a walking energy equation. You get gross and net calories plus a per-1,000-steps figure.
How it works
Stride ≈ height (m) × 0.415. Distance = steps × stride. Time comes from a moderate (or chosen) walking speed. ACSM walking VO2 then turns that into kcal.
Formula and methodology
km = steps × (height_m × 0.415) / 1000. Hours = km / speed. Then the ACSM walking equation as on the walking calorie calculator.
How to interpret the result
Heavier bodies cost more per step. Shorter strides mean the same step count covers less ground. 10,000 easy steps is not a license to eat a large pizza.
Example
175 cm, 75 kg, 10,000 moderate steps is often roughly 350–450 kcal gross — in the same neighborhood as the 10,000-steps guide, not 1,000 kcal.
Common mistakes
- Trusting a wrist count that counted stirring a pot as a hike.
- Eating the full number when TDEE already assumed a walking day.
When this estimate may be off
- The tracker is on a shopping cart hand.
- You ran some of the steps — use the running calculator for that block.
